Chase's surgery yesterday went very well and he continues to do well today. He is in the cardic ICU as a precaution, but he is doing very well and will be moved to the cardio floor later today. As expected, he had a great deal of pain yesterday, but is feeling much better today. He is VERY used to cosleeping, so sleeping at the hospital is a little challenging for him. : ) He still hasn't been able to eat....the doctor probably won't give the ok to feed him until sometime tomorrow. I can tell that he is hungry! ; )
Chase has had some of the same nurses that he had when he was in the ICU the first time and that has been fun to catch up with them. After being there for so long the first time, the nurses feel like old friends. : )
One other note about Chase....it is no secret that he has a very interesting anatomy...stomach on the right, liver midline, no spleen, etc. Yesterday during the surgery, the doctor discovered that he has an annular pancreas. Basically, rather than being an elongated, tapered pancreas that is located located across the back of the abdomen and behind the stomach, Chase's pancreas is basically round and surrounds the duodenum (the first part of the small intestine). It can cause problems, but according to our doctor, it is not likely that a asymptomatic annular pancreas will become symptomatic. FYI....annular pancreas occurs in 1 of every 12,000 to 15,000 births.
I have pics of us at the hospital that I will post later today. : )
